Our butterfly logo represents the resilience and growth that are possible when individuals, families, communities and clinicians work together to promote trauma recovery.
But there will never be enough mental health clinicians to meet the growing demand for support, especially in rural, remote, and otherwise disadvantaged communities.
Humans have been healing themselves since long before healing became a profession, and It Takes a Village to Heal a Child® seeks to put that power back into the hands of communities so they only need to access specialist clinical services in the most complex cases.
We provide practical training and ongoing support to enable your community to be able to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of survivors of trauma.
We provide training to parents and other caregivers in a practical model of trauma-informed care called Trust-Based Relational Intervention® or TBRI®.
TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® includes three sets of strategies for creating safety, building connection, and teaching self-regulation.
We provide training to community specialists (e.g., elders, support workers, chaplains, etc.) on evidence-informed techniques for taming the volcano of traumatic stress.
Unlike traditional therapies, these techniques, derived from modern trauma-focused therapies, do not require talking about the event with others—in fact, they can be used with groups of people without having to know what anyone is working on!
We offer regular online consultation sessions to support caregivers and specialists to reflect on what has been working well and to troubleshoot issues that may arise.
We offer these informal sessions for one hour once a month for as long as your organisation needs in order to feel confident in implementing the skills taught in training.
