Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a recommended treatment for trauma (more info). Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) has a comparable evidence base and working mechanisms to EMDR (more info), and Flash emerged from EMDR and is gathering its own evidence base as a standalone therapy (more info). Our therapeutic approach is influenced by these and other respected trauma-focused modalities.
Our principal practitioner is a registered counsellor but is not a licensed physician or mental health care provider. If you have a disorder or medical condition that has been diagnosed or should be evaluated by a licensed health care professional, our services should only be used in conjunction with you obtaining or continuing that care.
Our interventions seek to build capacity and optimise the body’s overall wellbeing by reducing the stress and emotional disturbances that contribute to present discomfort. If you are uncomfortable with any aspect of the interventions being used, please tell your practitioner immediately and they will stop. The methods we use are gentle and non-invasive, but we will always ask your permission before commencing a procedure.
Our practitioners have current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration.
Please contact us for a tailored quote for the services you require.
Payment in full is required at time of booking unless otherwise agreed in writing. If a session is cancelled or missed with less than 24 hours' notice, late cancellation fee of 50% will be payable unless you can provide evidence of a medical emergency. If you are late to a session, the session will still finish on time.
We do not work with children or young people who are funded by Child Safety Services in Tasmania due to an employment related conflict of interest. Our principal practitioner is also employed by the Department for Education, Children and Young People in a nonclinical role that interfaces with Child Safety Services.
All contact information and session notes are securely stored and are not shared with others, except with your explicit permission or in the circumstances listed below.
With the exception of special situations described in the numbered list that follows, you have the right to absolute confidentiality of your sessions with us. We will always act so as to protect your privacy to the best of our ability. You may direct us to share information with whomever you choose. You may also request anyone you wish to attend a session with you.
Our practitioners may occasionally find it helpful to consult other professionals about a client in order to improve their skills or resolve an issue. During such consultation, they will make every effort to avoid revealing the identity of the client. If you don’t object, we will not tell you about these consultations unless we feel it is important to our work together.
The exceptions to your right of confidentiality:
If we believe that you are in imminent danger of harming yourself.
If we believe that you are threatening serious harm to another.
If we become aware of harm that has occurred or been threatened to a child or elderly person.
In certain legal proceedings, a judge may order our testimony.
In any of these cases we may legally break confidentiality and contact the relevant authorities (e.g., police, child protection, etc.), a local crisis team or a family member or other intimates. We will endeavour to discuss this with you and offer support before making the report.
